Directions to the Walt Whitman Birthplace:

Long Island Expressway  -  To Exit 49N (Route 110 North).  Follow brown "Walt Whitman" signs.  Go north 1.8 miles on Route 110.  Make a left onto Old Walt Whitman Road (Exxon Gas Station on corner).  The Walt Whitman Birthplace will be on your right surrounded by wood fence. 
 
Northern State Parkway  -  To Exit 40N (Route 110 North).  Follow brown "Walt Whitman" signs.  Go north 1 mile on Route 110.  Make a left onto Old Walt Whitman Road (Exxon Gas Station on corner).  The Walt Whitman Birthplace will be on your right surrounded by wood fence. 
 
Southern State Parkway  -  To Exit 32N (Route 110 North).  Go north approximately 10 miles on Route 110.  Make a left onto Old Walt Whitman Road (Exxon Gas Station on corner).  The Walt Whitman Birthplace will be on your right surrounded by wood fence.  
 
Jericho Turnpike  -  To Route 110 South, proceed south ½mile on Rte. 110, bear right at the southern end of the Walt Whitman Mall onto Old Walt Whitman Road
(Ocean Crest Diner at fork in road), the Walt Whitman Birthplace will be on your left.

Huntington Train Station  -  Take the southbound S-1 bus (Amityville R.R. Station) to the bus stop on the Route 110 side of the Birthplace (The S-1 will approach the Birthplace bus stop soon after it has left the Walt Whitman Mall. Please be sure to signal the driver where you want to get off.). Walk about twenty feet south and enter through the gate. If the gate is not open follow the adjacent alley (next to Ritz Camera) and turn right to access the entrance on Old Walt Whitman Road. No Suffolk County Transit bus service on Sundays.

Public Transportation:

Suffolk County Transit

Bus routes which stop at the Walt Whitman Mall are: S1, S23, S29, S54, H4, and H9. No Suffolk County Transit service on Sundays or major holidays.

 

Long Island Railroad

Use either the Port Jefferson (Huntington train station) or
Ronkonkoma Branches (Farmingdale train station).

Long Island Bus routes which stop at the Walt Whitman Mall are: N79. Limited service on Sundays and holidays.

New London, CT to Orient Point, NY.

Bridgeport, CT to Port Jefferson, New York.
