Care & Commitment are the Ingredients of Successful Volunteers
The Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site is in need of volunteers to work, in various areas, at the birthplace throughout the year.
 
Become a Sleuth: Research Walt Whitman’s Living Family Tree 
 Internet research, phone book search. Find Walt Whitman’s Relatives still living on Long Island and beyond!
Assist in fundraising projects - oversee membership solicitation letters, solicit local businesses as sponsors, create local restaurant guide with sponsors, phone and email potential donors, create solicitation letters to previous Birthplace visitors.  Hours and days flexible.
 
Re-design and update our website (www.waltwhitman.org).  Hours and days flexible.
 
TOUR GUIDES!!!
Conduct tours of the WW Birthplace, Interpretive Center and grounds. Work part-time during the week (one day consisting of 4-5 hours) and/or weekends (one day of 4-5 hours) throughout the year.
 
MEDIA ASSISTANT
Work with our Media Director on PR and Marketing through creating advertising copy, designing posters, overseeing mailings and email correspondence.  Hours and days flexible.
 
EDUCATION ASSISTANT
Work with our Education Director arranging school visits, and promoting our educational programs through mailing and email correspondence.  Flexible hours Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.
 
CURATOR / MUSEUM STUDIES
Work with our Museum Curator on various prjects such as cataloging artifacts, conducting reserach, managing the archive collection.  Hours on Monday and/or Wednesday, 2-4pm.
 
EVENT PLANNER
Arrange and manage an event.  Contact speakers, coordinate requirements of speaker (travel arrangements, etc.), correspondence and mailing.  Hours and days flexible.
