Writing with Whitman: Poetry Writing Workshop with Poet Jane LeCroy

Jane Le Croy is a poet, singer and performance artist, home-birthing mother of 3, teacher. atheist, vegetarian. televisionless, hedonist, exemplifies the alphabet at its best. Jane's latest book of poetry, Names, was published in Brooklyn as part of the award winning ABC chapbook series, purchased by the Library of Congress along with her braid.
Participants will write three new poems at this upbeat and friendly workshop and receive useful suggestions for both revisions and performance. The workshop is for poets at all levels including those who are new to the form.
Fee for the workshop includes admission to the 6:15 PM "Meet the Poets" reception and the 7 PM poetry reading, Walking with Whitman: Poetry in Performance, featuring Jane Le Croy and poet Diane Wakoski.
Writing with Whitman is the companion series to Walking with Whitman: Poetry in Performance, a reading series featuring performances by some of the most intriguing figures in contemporary literature on the national scene, paired with respected voices on the regional scene. The series is hosted by Walt Whitman Birthplace Writer-in-Residence George Wallace.

As a part of our War Words Wisdom program commemorating the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, The Birthplace is offering free pocket sized versions of Walt Whitman's poem "America." Click here to download a printable PDF, or stop by for a free copy.
Art at the Birthplace
The Birthplace is proud to display art from local renowned artists. Visit the Interpretive center in the month of May to view a book exhibit from artist Barry McCallion.
Barry McCallion is often linked with Fluxus, an international movement dedicated to testing art’s images and ideas. The artist has traveled and exhibited widely and is the recipient of a number of grants. A selection of unique ‘artists books’ drawn and painted on handmade paper and housed in elegant presentation boxes will be on display. Other examples from this series are in various university and private rare book collections.
