Performing Poetry: A Workshop and Performance
Join Poet and Performer George Wallace in a 3 hour Saturday afternoon workshop to hone your skills reading poetry aloud before audiences. Wallace will offer practical tips on basic oral and stage techniques and demonstrations of various styles of presentation, including solo, with musical accompaniment and choral/group readings. He will also offer hands on guidance to workshop participants rehearsing poems they select for presentation in an early evening reading.
Wallace (MPH, MFA), the first poet laureate of Suffolk County and author of nineteen chapbooks of poetry, travels worldwide to perform his poetry. He has read at large open air venues such as the Woody Guthrie Festival and Bradstock, at major venues in the US, UK and Europe and is a regular performer at poetry venues throughout the NY Metropolitan area, including Bowery Poetry Club, and Cornelia Street Cafe. He has studied oral interpretation of poetry with WD Snodgrass and Marvin Bell and teaches at Pace University in Manhattan.
