Intersection of Community and Literary Voices

WWBA reprises two former successful Favorite Poem Projects created by US Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky. Community members of all ages are invited to bring and read their favorite African American poetry. Additionally, WWBA Trustee Dr. Susan Fishbein coordinates with Dr. Nicolette James, the chair of Westbury High School’s English Department, to work with students who will read and offer comments about African American poetry. Bronx Beat Poet Laureate Lorraine Currelley 2020-2022 State of New York will give a presentation on historic African American poets and poetry, read from her poetry and emcee for the afternoon “Open Mic” of community readers.
