Join us in celebrating Walt Whitman’s 202nd Birthday from anywhere in the world! WWBA is hosting a virtual world-wide Marathon Reading of “Leaves of Grass” and Whitman-Themed Art Exhibition via a live Zoom presentation event on May 31st, 2021.

WWBA invites the public to add your voices by submitting your recorded video of a reading from “Leaves of Grass.” Add your vision by submitting artwork inspired by Walt!  Selected videos and artwork will be shown during our live Zoom event and the recording will be uploaded to WWBA YouTube. Submissions now open and due Friday, May 7th, 2021. 


Please submit 2-3 minute video clip(s) reading from a section from “Leaves of Grass” by Walt Whitman. Submissions must Include your name and location of video recording. Creative backgrounds that highlight the locations are highly encouraged. Readings may be outdoors or indoors; in parks or museums; on trains or planes; in front of iconic locations – anywhere with visual interest.


All media are welcome. Artists may submit portraits of Walt Whitman or work inspired by his writing or legacy. Please be sure photo is cropped and can be seen clearly. No editing will be done to the image after it is submitted.
