Bare

Bare: Poems
By Eric Kafker

Honorable Mention Winner– Writer’s Digest 2000 Self-Published Book Award for Poetry

This collection of poems offers poetry that covers a variety of topics in a variety of styles. Many, such as “Seconds on Earth” achieve a quiet, imagistic quality of the ancient Chinese poets, yet others succeed in an easy narrative voice. Hafker raises questions about human relationships and often offers unique and interesting answers. I was most impressed by the images in this collection. They are visceral and evocative and so often, intensely imaginative. In the poem “Innocence” the speaker decides to plant himself in the yard and waits for it to take him over, and in “Kitchen Window” Hafker describes an intimate scene with delicacy and gentleness, leaving the reader to wonder where a gentle touch might lead. Mature and controlled, this collection offers something for every reader.
