December 5th, 2019 1:00 – 3:00PM WWBA presents Holiday Tea! A rare opportunity to register individually (or in smaller groups) for our delightful afternoon tea. Tickets much be purchased online. No refunds.
Afternoon tea was created in Great Britain c. 1840 as a means to stave off hunger until supper was served around 8 p.m. The classic Afternoon Tea is a “tasting” comprised of mini sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet pastries, miniature cakes, and a wide selection of fine teas.
Enjoy the elegance of a bygone era and transport yourself back in time as you learn about the history of tea and tea etiquette at our historic site. A guided tour of the Walt Whitman Birthplace follows the program.
Your dining experience includes an entertaining historical talk. Afterwards, we will talk about Walt Whitman’s life and poetry as we walk outside for a docent led tour of the 200-year-old Birthplace house where Walt Whitman was born. Your group will have the opportunity to socialize at elegantly set tables in a museum setting and learn about the poet, his family, and life on Long Island in the early nineteenth century.
